Council Highlights

Wyoming, ON - At its regular meeting Wednesday, November 4, 2015, Lambton County Council:

• Ratified a 4-year collective agreement with 80 full-time and 60 part-time members of SEIU Local 1 (County of Lambton paramedics), retroactive to March 2014 with pay increases of 2% per year (1.5% paid in April of each year with 0.5% paid six months later).

• Acknowledged and presented Recognition plaques to Dr. Ruth Grogan in appreciation of generous donations and ongoing support to the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lu in appreciation of generous donations and ongoing support to the County's Cultural Services Division; to Ms. Kathleen Bush in appreciation of generous donations and ongoing support to Sarnia Library; to Mr. Harry Flummerfelt in appreciation of his generous donation to North Lambton Lodge; and to the Ontario Genealogical Society Lambton County Branch in appreciation of the generous donations and ongoing support of Lambton County Archives.

• Heard a presentation from representatives of Lambton College regarding the post-secondary institution's project to construct a Health and Research Centre, to which the County generously contributed.

• Held the Annual General Meeting of the County of Lambton Community Development Corporation (owner of the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park) and heard a presentation from the Park's Executive Director.

• Formalized its equity investment in the County of Lambton Community Development Corporation in the form of debenture.

• Entered into a 10-year agreement (effective November 3, 2015) with the Town of Petrolia for the maintenance of County Roads and other related matters of shared interest in the Town.

• Directed staff to develop and finalize with the Municipality of South Middlesex an agreement for a two-year term regarding part-time services to be purchased for the administration and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code.

• Accepted 100% provincial funding in the amount of $18,200 under the Electronic Cigarettes Act.

• Noted the successful launch of the (fentanyl) Patch 4 Patch Program.

• Noted the pending retirement of the General Manager, Cultural Services.

• Endorsed making a formal request of the Premier of Ontario to direct the provincial Minister of Transportation to meet with a Lambton County-based delegation to discuss local road maintenance issues.

• Noted a Special Budget Priorities Meeting of Council will be held at approximately 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

•Noted that County Council is next scheduled to meet in regular Open Session at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015.
