Community Development Corporation Board Highlights

Monday, January 30, 2017

Sarnia, ON – The Community Development Corporation (CDC) Board of Directors recently met for its January meeting where the Board:

  • • Welcomed the following new Board members: Mark Daley, Associate Vice President (Research), Western University; Jenny Gough, President and Principal, Pollutech EnviroQuatics Limited; John McCharles, Deputy Warden, County of Lambton; Janice McMichael-Dennis, President and CEO, Bluewater Power; and Bill Weber, Warden, County of Lambton.
  • • Noted that the Industrial Bioproducts Laboratory, led by Dr. Charles Xu of Western University, graduated from the Research Park in the fall of 2016 with plans to move into the commercial sector. Dr. Xu worked with Masters and PhD students on topics related to the conversion of forestry biomass and residuals into marketable products, and successfully developed bio-based foams and resins from lignin, a by-product from the forestry industry.

"Dr. Xu's work is yet another example of the fundamental role played by the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park in providing a supportive environment for concepts to develop from the incubation to commercialization phase," said CDC Board Chair Mike Bradley. "The CDC is excited to see what growth opportunities lie ahead in 2017."
