Community Development Corporation Board Highlights

Sarnia, ON - The Community Development Corporation Board of Directors met for its June 24, 2015 meeting where the Board:

"The Park works closely in partnership with both Western University and Lambton College," said Chair Mike Bradley. "This partnership is an important economic driver for the region, securing both jobs and investment for our community."

  • Considered 10 applications for highly skilled applications for two positions of Director of the Board.
  • Noted that the Park continues to operate at or near full capacity and that there is strong, ongoing interest in the community for potential leasing opportunities at the site.
  • Was informed that over 200 attendees were on site in May for the Chamber of Commerce "Business After 5" event.
  • Acknowledged that staff member Dr. Katherine Albion had won the Engineering Award of Recognition for her work at the Park.
  • Noted the healthy financial projections for the Park. Revenues continue to climb and expenses are being reduced. For example, ongoing energy reduction initiatives at the site will result in overall energy savings of nearly $200,000.
  • Commented on the increased number of graduates from the Park. Successful graduates include Jack Brown & Associates who developed an engineering database application and IndustrialWebApps.com who developed software.
  • Noted the large body of research coming from the ORF Forestry Bio Refinery Research Program. The Park contributed to the training of 66 Highly Qualified Professionals, 106 publications, and seven disclosures.
  • Acknowledged the strong links with Lambton College and the recent launch of the Centre of Excellence in Energy and Bio-Industrial Technologies.
